Job Summary:

Directs the administration and enforcement of all adopted regulatory codes and ordinances pertaining to building construction and related areas. The position is responsible for supervising staff; directing plan review, building inspection, permitting licensing investigation and fire prevention for new construction functions; interpreting complex codes to industry professionals and the general public, and performing related professional, administrative and supervisory tasks as required. The position develops and implements programs within organizational policies; reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

This position may be required to assist with emergency support functions in the event of a declared emergency and/or any other emergency duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture or a closely related field with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience as a Deputy Building Official, Assistant Building Official, or equivalent position and three (3) years experience serving as a Building Official with a government agency.

Requires a valid Florida driver's license.

Must possess state certification as a Building Code Administrator (Building Official).

Required to possess or be able to obtain professional certifications and licenses as required by state law.

Preferred: Standard Plans Examiner License in one or more trades, Standard Inspectors License in one or more trades, Fire Safety Inspector Certificate through the State Fire Marshal, or Certified Floodplain Manager through the Association of State Floodplain Mangers,
