Job Summary:

The essential function of the Public Communications & Outreach Coordinator is to assist in coordinating and implementing an effective communication and outreach program for Lake County government.

This position requires a professional, self-motivated individual, who can handle numerous complex tasks and projects simultaneously, and must be effective at both oral and written communication. The Public Communications & Outreach Coordinator will assist in digital and social media content development, advertising, public relations, and marketing.

The position prepares content for electronic communication pieces, assists in coordinating photographic asset gathering and coverage, manages content for the county’s various social media platforms and websites, and performs related professional and administrative work as required.

The Public Communications & Outreach Coordinator will update and assist in creating content and files for the county’s websites and social media accounts with the end goal of providing professional internal and external marketing. The position will work directly with County staff to develop, write, edit, and post engaging content that is consistent with the County’s brands. This implement content strategy to engage users on social media platforms and through marketing campaigns.

This employee will work closely with the Lead Public Information Officer, Web Services Manager/Art Director, and Communications Director to ensure brand and strategy are consistent. The Public Communications & Outreach Coordinator collaborates with staff to enhance innovative digital communications, connecting residents and the County while maintaining a positive user experience.

The position requires strong technical and creative writing ability as well as time-management, prioritization, and communication skills; teamwork and the ability to meet deadlines; extensive knowledge and experience with social media platforms; ability to plan, manage, and execute initiatives.

Work requires the ability to work alone and as a member of a team. Employee must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, display project management skills and adapt to changing priorities.

This position shall be required to assist with emergency support functions in the event of declared emergency and/or any other emergency duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Requires a bachelor’s degree program in Public Relations, Marketing or Advertising, Journalism, Communications, or a closely related field with one (1) year of related experience.
