Burn Ban in Effect

Effective March 25, 2025, the Lake County Government will impose a Burn Ban throughout the county until further notice. The ban is being implemented due to the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) rating meeting or exceeding 500, making it necessary to take proactive measures to ensure public safety.

Lake County has not received significant rainfall over an extended period, causing surrounding counties to impose similar bans on open burning. The Burn Ban will prohibit the burning of yard debris, land for any reason, recreational fires, and unauthorized piles of debris not approved by the Florida Forest Service. However, fuel being burned in an outdoor fireplace, barbeque grill, or pit that has a total fuel area of 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in height will be excluded from the ban. Please note that FFS may, at times, continue to issue burn permits for commercial burn permits.

When the KBDI rating falls below 500 for five consecutive days, residents will be notified that the burn ban has been lifted. We ask that residents adhere to the ban to help ensure the safety of the community.
