Job Summary:

This limited term position offers an internship opportunity in order to provide college students from a wide variety of educational disciplines the opportunity to apply traditional academic classroom learning to actual work experience.







The primary function of this position is to provide clerical support, research and draft documents under the supervision of the County Attorney and Assistant County Attorneys.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Conducts legal research and compiles data for completion of basic legal forms and Documents, and/or in response to legal work requests. • Drafts resolutions and ordinances for attorneys to be presented to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration. • Drafts pleadings, motions, memoranda, and briefs associated with matters in litigation. • Assists with jury trials including background investigations and vetting of potential jurors, drafting proposed jury instructions. • Assists Assistant County Attorneys when appearing before the administrative hearing officer in code compliance hearings. • Interacts with outside counsel working for the County on various matters, under the direction of the Assistant County Attorneys. • Reviews and prepares contracts and other public procurement related documents and provides input for changes in language. • Drafts proposed revisions to County policies. • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:



To qualify for this position, applicants must, by the start date of the internship: (a) be currently enrolled in an accredited law school; (b) be in good academic standing as defined by their institution; and (c) have successfully completed at least the second year of legal studies (i.e., be a rising 3L or equivalent). Applicants who do not meet all three criteria at the commencement of the internship are not eligible. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Florida driver's license.
Additional Information: The position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week and has a six-month limit. The position will not participate in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) and will have no accruals.
