Job Summary:
The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform skilled repair work on any of the following: diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles, trucks, heavy and light equipment, boats, spray equipment utilized by Lake County, as well as other mechanical systems, ensuring that repaired equipment runs properly and safely. Duties are performed in compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. The position works under general supervision independently developing work methods and sequences.
Employee is required to have the ability to:
• perform general maintenance and repair to light and medium-duty gas and diesel vehicles, including engine, transmission, front-end and body components,
• perform basic troubleshooting techniques,
• correct electrical problems and to install various electrical accessories,
• order parts
• Weld and fabricate
• coordinate and inspect repairs and maintenance completed by vendors and subordinate employees,
• establish and maintain various types of service and other records,
• use hand and power tools to perform a variety of mechanical work,
• replace and tighten screws and bolts to required torque,
• remove and service rotors, check components against specific tolerances, replace pads and other components, rebuild brake components, bleed, and test brake systems,
• replace oil, transmission fluid, and filters, along with coolant, and other fluids and refill to manufacturer’s specifications, and verify fluid levels,
• test batteries and electrical components,
• properly remove and replace batteries
• check and service A/C systems, add refrigerant, and repair or rebuild A/C system,
• provide effective written, and verbal communications, and
• document work performed.
Employee is required to have knowledge of:
• automotive tools,
• vehicle A/C systems, electrical systems,
• brake systems, mechanical systems,
• basic principles and terminology of automotive mechanics.
Shall be required to assist with emergency support functions in the event of a declared emergency and/or any other emergency duties as assigned.
Employee is required to have the ability to:

Minimum Qualifications:
The County may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience for selected position postings on a year-for-year basis, provided that the education/experience is in a relevant or related field.
Requires high school diploma or GED and one year of college or vocational school education in automotive mechanics with one year of related experience.
• Requires a valid Florida Driver’s License. Requires a Florida Class “B” CDL license or one to be obtained within 6 months of employment***
• Must possess and maintain a minimum of 8 ASE’s and other certification(s) as deemed necessary by supervisor (including but not limited to general pesticide application, forklift certification, ASE Certifications in Automotive / Truck Repair and/or EVT Certifications.)
Requires high school diploma or GED and one year of college or vocational school education in automotive mechanics with one year of related experience.
• Requires a valid Florida Driver’s License. Requires a Florida Class “B” CDL license or one to be obtained within 6 months of employment***
• Must possess and maintain a minimum of 8 ASE’s and other certification(s) as deemed necessary by supervisor (including but not limited to general pesticide application, forklift certification, ASE Certifications in Automotive / Truck Repair and/or EVT Certifications.)
