Job Summary:

The essential function of this trainee position within the organization is to operate light and heavy equipment in the operation, maintenance, and/or construction of County roads, grounds, and infrastructure while actively participating in Lake County’s in-house Equipment Operation and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program. This is a training role designed to prepare individuals for a full Equipment Operator position. Trainees will operate and train on vehicles and equipment under close supervision and are expected to successfully complete all aspects of the training program including obtaining a valid Florida CDL Class B license within 12 months of hire. It is not required for applicants to have a CDL at the time of hire. Additional responsibilities include inspecting and maintaining equipment and performing related work as assigned. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.

This position shall be required to assist with emergency support functions in the event of a declared emergency and/or any other emergency duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

The County may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience for selected position postings on a year-for-year basis, provided that the education/experience is in a relevant or related field.

Requires a high school diploma, GED, or vocational training with one (1) year of related experience.

Requires valid Florida class E driver’s license and must have the ability to obtain a valid Florida CDL Class B driver’s license within 12 months of hire through the County’s CDL training program.

Requires Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic certification within six (6) months of hire.
