Job Summary:

The essential function of the position within the organization is to assist in the fire loss management program for the unincorporated area of Lake County and to review and evaluate commercial and residential building plans for compliance with pertinent local ordinances and state codes as needed. The position is responsible for reviewing building and site plans and subdivision plats for compliance with fire codes, inspecting new and existing buildings and assisting clients in attaining code compliance, conducting fire safety inspections, providing professional customer service, and preparing required records and reports. The position works under general supervision independently developing work methods and sequences.

This position may be required to assist with emergency support functions in the event of a declared emergency and/or any other emergency duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Preferred: Associate degree in fire science or inspection, or a closely related field.

Requires current State of Florida certification as a Fire Inspector I. Preferred to have advanced certification/s. Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor I, II, III, Arson Investigator, NFPA Inspector, NFPA Plans examiner, Certified Fire Protection Specialist, or any NICET Certifications.

Requires a valid Florida driver’s license. Requires a minimum of two (2) years of related experience or a combination of education in a related field with fire prevention experience.
